Day 1ish
So, it is my first full day as a resident of Astoria! Yeay!
The title of this post is 1ish because I cheated: I got in yesterday and got a head start on home improvements, but didn't feel like writing about it yet. So here we are at Day 1ish. So far, I have begun to de-mold the shower and actually made good progress! It is almost fit to shower in, and should be in tip top shape by the end of the day. I have also assembled (and slept in) my brand new big kid bed. I am feeling rather accomplished. I also got to experience the joys of GrubHub (places actually deliver in NY! Take that La Jolla, CA). So despite the ungodly layover in Philly and the exhaustion of yesterday, things are moving in a good direction. There is a fantastic breeze coming in through my window and the sun is (mostly) shining.
The downside: apparently I was on retarded pills when I purchased my Ikea furniture last time I was here. I bought the wrong Malm table (occasional v. dressing), the wrong depth of shelves for my Pax wardrobe (but its ok, cause I also picked up ones missing the screws....), and I now think the larger Pax wardrobe I bought is well, too large. So, Day 1.5 of my life post car, and I need a car. Go figure. I am strongly considering trying to Craigslist my incorrect Ikea furniture instead of returning it just to avoid hauling it to Brooklyn and back, but after my last few days of Craigslisting in California, I don't know if I can handle dealing with internet people right now. So, we'll see. If any of you mystery readers (of which I know there are currently none) live in Astoria and want some fancy new furniture, send me some telepathic thoughts.
Now all that's left is.... to move everything. Right. My stuff will arrive between 8am and noon tomorrow, probably. Too bad I also have to be at Lincoln Center at 1pm. Lucky parents, they get to unload the terribly cumbersome truck all by themselves.. yuck. Little do they know that it is stacked over 8' high and contains a lot of heavy and fragile items. Good luck!
